Louth SC junior swimmers finished off the Lincs Junior League in a very creditable 3rd position in the league, after coming home in 3rd place on the night too, at the final round gala at Scunthorpe on 10th September. Louth had only 4 individual wins on the night, as they were up against some very stiff competition, in particular from the home team CASA “A” team and also from Lincoln Vulcans “A”. Also taking part were City of Lincoln Pentaqua (CLP) “A”, Gainsborough Dolphins and Grantham clubs. Louth SC “Swimmer of the Night” was undoubtedly young 9 year old Jevon George-Jones, taking part in his 2nd only gala for Louth.
Jevon was the first Louth individual winner of the evening, when he swam the 9 yrs 25m Freestyle event in a fabulous Pb time. It was an extremely close finish between Jevon and the swimmer from CASA, but Jevon kept his cool to the very end, touching home just in front by a whisker! He was to gain further points for the team later on in the evening, when he swam in the 25m Backstroke, finishing in 2nd place this time.
Next winner for Louth was 12 year old Sofie Schneider swimming in her best event, the 50m Breaststroke. Sofie has not been beaten in this event in all of the 3 rounds, which is a testament to her fabulous smooth stroke. She was never really challenged throughout the swim and finished a good 3 seconds in front of her nearest rival. She managed to get another Pb and a County Qualifying Time in the bargain. Sofie also gained a 2nd place in the girls 12/u 50m Butterfly, with yet another Pb and County time in the bag.
Joshua Wright was the next Louth victor, in the Boys 11/u 50m Breaststroke event. Josh managed to edge out the swimmer from Grantham, by keeping his focus throughout his race. He managed to achieve a massive 3 second Pb and a County Qualifying time too. Josh gained further team points with a creditable 2nd place in the 11/u 50m Freestyle, again achieving a good Pb and County time.
Not to be outdone by her twin sister, Marie Schneider won the Girls 12/u 50m Backstroke in another closely fought out race, winning in the end by just over half a second. Again it was the smoothness of her stroke which won the day!
Louth had further 2nd places as follows (other than previously mentioned): Luke Freeman – Boys 11/u 50m Backstroke; Oliver Hardesty – Boys 9 yrs 25m Butterfly; Boys 9 yrs Medley Relay Team – Andrew (Drew) Thompson, Joseph Vickers, Oliver Hardesty and Jevon George-Jones); Girls 12/u Freestyle Relay Team – Lola Sharrock, Marie and Sofie Schneider and Lily Miller.
Louth gained 16 3rd places on the night too, which kept us in 3rd position overall. Other Louth swimmers not yet mentioned but who gained a great number of points for the team and put in superb performances were; Kieran Young, Tom and Emma Harrop, Ivan Koslow, Scarlet Torrington, Paige Kelly, Ellena Bartup, Lottie and Hugo Fry, Ely Miller, Lily Jacklin, Qian Yue To, Leon Page, Megan Gilpin (1st ever gala!), Emma Maw, Callum Kidd, George Walker.
Louth Coaches all said that the squad put in a fabulous overall performance. Swimmers gained 30 Pb’s and 9 County Qualifying times were achieved by Emma Harrop, Sofie Schneider, Emma Maw, Josh Wright, Tom Harrop and Kieran Young.
Results in points on the night (still to be ratified) were – 1st CASA “A” (237), 2nd Lincoln Vulcans “A” (212), 3rd Louth (168), 4th Gainsborough Dolphins (151), 5th CLP”A” (141), 6th Grantham (99)
